a fake new blog post

i got this idea from my friend mackenzie :) a pseudo-post to say another post is coming, kind of a fake-out if you will. LOTS is happening these days, and just no time for documentation! My mama was just here for 4 days (SO fun, love ya mama!) school is nuts (as in my day job), and school has been nuts (as in my MA program). I am getting through it, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our house has been a MESS, much laundry to be done, etc etc and my lovely husband cleaned the whole dang house top to bottom yesterday while i was in class. i'm not sure what kind of wild hair climbed up who knows where, but he attacked the house aaaaaaand the laundry. man, i love him. ok, 30 8th graders will be walking in the door in 8 minutes...lucky me. oh, did i mention i am pretty tired of my job right about now? it's a bummer, because i honestly don't want to come to work each morning. it will get better. this lull has happened before and it always gets better...probably right about the time spring break hits ;) i promise fun photo documentation to follow...one of these days!

where do you clip your fingernails?

hello, faithful blogger-checkers! i want to begin with a disclaimer that i never promised amazing, insightful posts every time...only most the time (ha. just kidding) all i promised was a peek into our lives, however boring or bizarre it may be at times. (end disclaimer). speaking of bizarre, you are probably wondering why on earth i titled my post like this. picture this... i was sitting at starbucks this evening busting out homework for my master's class, without my ipod this time (unfortunately), thoroughly focused on my work with my face in my laptop. some jazzy tunes are flowing, only a handful of people about, productive time spent for me. then, all of a sudden, i hear an all too familiar sound that can't be mistaken as anything other than fingernail clipping. what? i am at starbucks, not in my bathroom, or at the very least my own livingroom. i look up to find what i really hoped was my ears deceiving me. not the case. all my work completely ceased as i pondered this weird and more importantly gross circumstance. i really wanted to throw something at this fingernail-clipping in public perpetrator. and i was only drinking a beverage (grande soy 3 pump vanilla latte to be specific) but had i been eating, i think i might have had to get up and leave. luckily, after about 5 minutes (and apparantly satisfactory nails) he got up and left, and i got back to work. maybe i am ridiculously sensitive but i just thought that was inappropriate. and i just thought i'd share. i would never clip my fingernails or do any other type of personal grooming in a public establishment. i hope you don't either.

ego-smasher

So I (Whitney, that is...who else writes in this thing) just got home from the 2nd night of soccer try-outs. I have 19 girls trying out and 15 spots on my team (not to mention this is AFTER they already haven't made the A team, I coach the B team). Now, I have never been stellar in math, but even I can do that mental math...which tells me I have to make some cuts. For those of you who don't know, I have been coaching a club soccer team for the past year in Rancho Penesquitos, in the club PQ Premier. I had a great time, but club is a bit crazy. It is a HUGE time committment for me and my players, families are super involved monetarily and time-wise. I coached U-11 girls last year and and staying with them for U-12 this year. Well, I should say MOST of them are staying with me because I have to make cuts. It seriously felt like a little family last year, all year. I swear some weekends I saw my team (players and parents) more than I saw Matt! I am currently in the misdt of a horrible painstaking moral dilemma. My job is to make the best, most competitive team possible...that's the nature of club. The sad part is, I mean the REALLY HARD part is having to cut girls who played for me last year. I feel so bad and dread this weekend when I have to make phone calls. I don't enjoy smashing sweet little 11 year old girl's egos who just don't happen to be good enough for my team this year. I think I should coach REC next year.

Courtney's Wedding... 2.2.08 ... Portland OR

Matthew and I flew up to Oregon for a whirlwind weekend for my good friend Courtney's wedding. It was so much fun and the wedding was so nice. It was just as she had pictured. Courtney looked beautiful (as always) and I was honored to stand by her side up there. I absolutely love her husband, Sean. I also got the chance to see a few old friends from college that I don't get to see often enough at all. I got to see my friend Melissa (Brown) Abby who I played soccer with. I had kinda lost touch with her and her husband, Chad...both good friends of mine in college, so it was super fun to catch up. Now, they are having a baby in a few months! I also got to see Inga and Jen...both in the picture below. It was awesome to get back in touch with those original Young Hall Dorm girls!! And of course...Matt and I got to spend a small amount of time with my family which is always a good time. Here are some pictures from the weekend! p.s. I decided to cut my hair and dye it dark.
