One year ago this Sunday, I checked a life goal off my list...running and finishing a marathon. [And Matt ran marathon number 6] The Saturday before any race is the Expo, where you go get your race number and a goody bag and walk around with thousands of other runners getting all pumped up by the environment around you. One year ago tomorrow, Matt and I (and Mack and Kirst) were walking around the expo doing just that. Except Matt and I were pumped for another reason, we had a little secret. That Saturday morning, at 5am...we saw this:

Extreme excitement enveloped both of us (and shock and disbelief initially).

So we kept our secret (not for long!) and I finished that marathon in utter amazement that I was carrying another little life with me for 26.2 miles.
before the race about 5am:

after...yaaaaay!

We smiled on that day for two reasons. The immediate gratification that comes along with completing a major goal...and more importantly, that we knew we were embarking on what we now know as the greatest journey imaginable; parenthood. We knew we were entrusted with a miracle and felt so blessed from that day forward.
One year later, we have a name and a face for our miracle, and we are so THANKFUL.
I mean, who wouldn't love this face?
