12 legs in the bed!

Lately, we have had 12 legs in our bed. That is waaaaay too many legs going every which direction!!! Buddy has decided that he should sleep on the bed too. (Zoe is a non-negotiable). The problem is, even if one or the other start on the floor, they will just come right up like they own the place when we fall asleep. The bigger problem is, Matt and I both really like having our pups snuggle with us! However, last night, I found myself tossing and turning and trying to fall asleep in the tiny corner of our king-size bed that's apparently reserved for me. That is when I started counting exactly how many legs were in our bed...right about the time that I was still awake because one of Buddy's legs was on top of me and the other one was in my side. Don't worry, we won't have the problem of our children sleeping in bed with us someday...there's no more room! (haha).

10 years

I am sitting in San Diego, but wishing I were in Portland right now. I went back and forth about attending my reunion, and seeing as I had 2 games to coach this weekend (tomorrow in Temecula) I just couldn't figure out how to deal with the conflicts and justify spending the money to fly up there.

I am more curious that I thought I would be about people. I just think about how much I have changed in 10 years, and it is crazy! While I am still very much the same person, all of life's experiences mold and shape us little by little. I like who I am now. I like my life! I don't like how fast those 10 years went by though. It is weird because HS seems like forever and a day ago, yet still unbelievable it has been 10 whole years. I still wonder about people. I wonder about people who were a HUGE part of my life for many, many years and I am sure they are very different also. Would we pick right back up again where we left off? Would it be small talk and awkward? Maybe a bit of both, depending on how each person has changed.

In addition to wishing I were going to my reunion that starts in 2 hours in downtown Portland, I just wish I were with my family for a while. I miss my nephews and the rest of my family like crazy! My dad told me yesterday that the air is cool and crisp and they are starting to have fires in the fireplace!! That's the best. I'm listening to the hum of our air-conditioner (which I am very grateful for these days). Don't get me wrong, I really like living in San Diego also. I just get a big itch to get up to the Great Northwest every fall. Maybe Matt and I will head to Julian soon. I love it up there!

the big 2-8

Thank you to everyone who made me feel SO special on my birthday! I have the best FAMILY and FRIENDS, I really do :) I had flowers delivered to my classroom by both my husband himself (so cute, my students went nuts!) and a flower man with another beautiful bouquet (thanks Harvey's!) I had a box waiting at the doorstep with fabulous items inside (an amazing bluetooth speaker for my car, not an ear piece! a bottle of my fave wine, and a supply of home-made choc chip scones!) Thanks Sis and Robert! I have such amazing in-laws! I found another fabulous card in the mail with some moola from my mama and bonus dad (bd), and a fun shirt and sweet card in a package from CP! Not to mention numerous texts, emails, and phone calls showing the love. All in one day!! :) We are celebrating with friends this weekend by going out to dinner, and I am looking forward to it!

So, my birthday present from Matt (and myself!) was to get custom, built-in closets. They were actually installed on my birthday, and it ended up being a of of work! We have virtually no storage and needed to be able to use every inch of space in the closet! :)

here is the empty closet. i forgot to take a true "before" picture, and I realized this after everything was already out of the closet. I told Matt we needed to put everything back in, so I could snap a shot...he didn't go for it.

soooo...i settled for just taking pics of all the crap in the living room!

i couldn't believe how much stuff kept coming out...yikes.

we were able to get rid of these...(hello, college? plastic drawers!)

we took a break to go out to a birthday dinner! all dressed up in our sweats :)

my side...

matt's side...

the middle...tons of shelves for storage behind that wall! (all the shelves are full now!)

my husband...

...and me, being a silly 28 year old now!

It feels so good to be organized!

fall and football

It's all about the Ducks and the Chargers. Starting last weekend, here is how we will be spending our weekends:

go chargers! (sporting our LT jerseys)

matt posting up for the day

checking fantasy

checking fantasy again...and again.

greg and dave over for the charger game...checking fantasy. weird.

watching the ducks barely pull off a win today, phew. (brady and jen, matthew and i) Go Ducks!

I love fall and football! We have plenty of football, if only we had a little more "fall" in San Diego.

a new season

well, summer is officially over and i was sad to see it go. we are getting back into the swing of things at work, and the first week back was pretty good all things considered! i have some GREAT kids, only a small handful of knuckleheads so far (compared to like 7 big handfuls of knuckleheads last year!!) the only bad thing is HUGE class sizes in 8th grade. we are supposed to stay with a 25-1 ratio, and my average class sizes are 34 kids. 8th graders are BIG to begin with and they barely all fit in my room!!! plus, it is about 114 degrees in my room by the afternoon, really bad combo.

matt is teaching 8th grade this year too (last year he only taught 6/7) so we share a bunch of kids. we are in this little war, with the kids as the messengers. for example, a couple kids come to class on the first day of school and say "Mrs. Harvey, Mr. Harvey says you can't cook!!!!" Real funny, Matthew. and the kids laugh. and i laugh. So I tell them all to check their schedules and if they have 2 harvey's on their schedule then i feel bad for them. and they laugh. the kids think it is pretty darn funny :)

as for summer, we checked so many fun things off our to do list! the only two things on the list that didn't happen this summer were: going to the beach (i know! can you believe we didn't go to the beach at all!!! crazy!) and me making a wedding album. I still want to, I just didn't have the energy at the end of the summer. some day.

i am SOOOO excited because we are getting built in closets installed (that we designed!!!!) on 9/16, which also happens to be my birthday! happy birthday to me!!!!! i seriously cannot wait. i will take before and after pics to post. oh, i can't wait!
